BREATH & SOUND Experience

Led by George MacPherson and Joseph (BIG JOE) Fauria, this two hour breath and sound workshop will offer guests a deeply transformative experience that harnesses the potency of active participation; the innate power of our own breath, and the potential within a heightened awareness of sound available in deep listening. This experience brings together two modalities of breathwork and sound meditation; which flow together to help us connect with what is real, create space and observe what arises, listen to what our body is telling us when we finally allow ourselves to surrender, still our minds and feel into the present moment. Big Joe will expertly lead you through breathwork transitions, using a range of curated, rhythmic breath patterns for you to safely release, and allow your body to drop into an altered state. From here a soundscape created by George, working with various over tone emitting instruments such as symphonic gong, chimes, Himalayan bowls and more - becomes your guide to your inner journey of self reflection, potent contemplation and experiencing the unstruck sound within - Anahata. We will close with an opportunity to share and hold space for each other in this co-created container.

FREQUENCY Breathwork

Join Frequency founder Vivian Rosenthal for a transformative breathwork journey to support your emotional and mental wellbeing. Breathwork allows you to explore non-ordinary states of consciousness, consciously. In this liminal space the breath allows you to release stuck and suppressed negative emotions and trauma in the body to make space for healing to occur. Through breathwork you can touch feelings of deep self-love, bliss and unity consciousness. Tears, laughter and unexpected feelings and emotions often surface as we move through layers of conscious and unconscious programming, patterns, stories and behaviors. The breathwork activations help you connect with your intuition (higher self), your creativity (divine purpose) and break free of addictions, traumas and limiting beliefs. Please bring your own eye masks (optional) 10% off for all SOUK members Vivian is a visionary healer, breathwork teacher and spiritual guide who creates collective spaces for awakening and transformation. She is an architect of sacred spaces, and the creator of Frequency, a breathwork organization and Diamond Rose Sanctuary, a retreat center in CT. Her beathwork journeys are quantum cosmic Psychoactivations, allowing people to access higher heart consciousness and self-love by unlocking DMT endogenously in the brain. • Where does the name SOUK come from?

SOUK is a word with Middle Eastern origins. It is a place where people put aside their differences to exchange goods and information. In Sanskrit (the language of yoga), sukh is referred to as a place centered in joy & ease of being. SOUK is a space of exchange where one feels welcome and inspired.

  • Where is Souk Yoga Studio located?

Souk is located at 12 West 27 Street, 2nd Floor (between Broadway & 6 Avenue) in the heart of the Flatiron, NoMad neighborhood in NYC. This area is often referred to as the “Sweat Corridor” due to the multitude of boutique fitness studios.

  • What yoga classes can I attend at Souk?

  • Why should I practice yoga?

The list of yoga’s therapeutic benefits is long – from improving posture, to boosting energy levels, to decreasing stress and anxiety. The Self-confidence one gains from practicing yoga will permeate all aspects one your life.

Yoga means to join, to feel connected rather than dis-connected.

    • Connected to one’s body to feel its potential – strength, resilience, flexibility and vitality.
  • Why should I practice in-person, in a studio?

Nothing compares to a room full of practitioners moving together rhythmically, meeting their edge on the mat and co-creating in-the-moment an IRL vibe. The power of a collective practice inevitably lingers long after the yoga class. Moreover, you can experience hands-on assists through the power of touch.

But… If you are unable to make it in-person, many classes at SOUK are livestreamed via Zoom so we can certainly beam you in!

  • What if I’m new to yoga?

New is awesome. Start where you are is the best life advice! As one great teacher (Shunryu Suzuki) wrote once: “If your mind is empty, it is always ready for anything, it is open to everything. In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s mind there are few. ”

We recommend SOUK Align & Flow, Yin and Restorative,  SOUK Rise, Flow and Power Flow classes.

  • What kinds of methods do you teach?

  • Do you play music in class?

Most classes at SOUK incorporate music. Our studio features a club level sound system installed by Eleven Audio Design, which will rock your world!

The music our teachers play in class never compromises the teacher’s voice or instructions but is meant to enhance your experience. Rather than “elevator” or background music, you will hear tunes from a wide range of bands and artists – electronic, rock and roll, indie, pop, hip hop, and devotional music.
